Sometimes shorter means more challenging. In this case we translated a short script for a commercial from English into Dutch. The script consisted of short sentences and radiated a sense of dreaminess and melancholy. We had to capture that mood in the translation without it sounding clunky. It forced us to depart from the original text and come up with a freer translation.
We engaged several translators who are also copywriters and have the creative nous to produce something entirely new in the target language. This approach worked wonders. Deliveroo was delighted with the translation!
